Express Check-in

I have been trying to find time to write a blog post for the last week and a half and it’s generally impossible. As I type this with my thumb (on my phone) I have Runa cuddled on my lap and Alice cuddled on my shoulder.

Writing a deep and meaningful blog post about family life with a child with Aicardi syndrome after a newborn has been added to the equation was evidently a lofty ambition.

So instead I’ll do a quick update on us all.

Nina: Nina is still loving school, and also excited to be back to face to face ballet lessons. She is besotted with her new little sister but still also crazy about Ru. Being a big sister is what she excels at and she has been a great help. Whether it’s cuddling Alice or entertaining Runa, she’s been an awesome little helper.

Runa: Runa is loving nursery having officially started at the beginning of September. The staff say she spends the whole day smiling and when we drop her off she brightens up so much when she recognises where she is. The nursery make sure she has 1:1 with a member of staff and she loves the interaction from other children her age. Since Runa can’t tell me how her day has been the staff always fill out a communication book, and it is so lovely reading about what she’s been getting up to.

When it comes to Alice, her interest is mild at best. I think she’ll find her new little sister more fun when she’s crawling all over her.

In other news, Runa has taught us some new games! She will clap, blow raspberries or scrunch up her eyes to get us to copy her. And when we copy her the game continues until one of us gets bored. It’s so lovely that she’s discovered this way of playing (though we can’t initiate it, she needs to start it).

Alice: Alice is a month old now and she is the most grumpy baby I’ve ever met! Unless she is drinking or sleeping she is grumping. She is beautiful and wonderful and I am madly in love with her. But, man, what a grump!

Stewart: Stewart needs sleep

Me: I need sleep and chocolate

Eric: Eric spends all day sleeping, lucky b*****d

So who knows if I’ll manage a more coherent and meaningful blog post next month- only time will tell! In the meantime I’ll be enjoying my beautiful family in a haze of exhaustion and happiness.
